Secondary coding with a proven track record

Date

Pyrotec PackMark, May 21, 2018: Secondary packaging is the layer of packaging that is positioned outside the primary packaging and is often used to combine several identical primary packages. The first layer of packaging, in direct contact with the product, is called primary packaging.

As secondary packaging is not in direct contact with the product, its use and application often has distinct differences to those used for primary packaging. However, there are cases where their purposes converge. Secondary packaging has two central functions:

Branding and shelf appeal

Secondary packaging is vital to the product’s marketing strategy, particularly in the case of display packaging. It’s the packaging most visible to consumers at retail.

Logistics

Secondary packaging often groups several products together for ease of handling, transport and storage. To protect the primary packaging, secondary packaging must be able to:

  • contain a number of primary packaged products
  • transport the product safely to retail or end users
  • keep the primary packaging in its original condition during storage.

Secondary coding

Secondary coding is transferred onto secondary packaging, such as cardboard boxes and cartons, plastic crates, and shrink-wrapping.

Pyrotec PackMark provides a range of exceptional coding equipment for every category of packaging including primary, secondary and tertiary coding, and Premium Label Solutions.

For secondary coding, the 2200 Series from Markem-Imaje, locally supplied by Pyrotec PackMark, builds on a proven concept of reliability, efficiency and ease of use with thousands of units installed in demanding 24/7 environments.
