Boosting the end of line packaging market

Date

Pyrotec, November 2019:
In a report published by Transparency Market Research (TMR), entitled End-of-line Packaging Market, findings show that technologically advanced integrated packaging solutions are what customers are choosing to gain a competitive edge over their competitors.

The global end-of-line packaging market was valued at US$4 070.5m at the end of 2016 and is projected to increase at a CAGR of 4% between 2016 and 2026.

The various end-use industries for the application of end-of-line packaging are pharmaceuticals, automotive, electronics and semiconductor, chemical products, food and beverages, and consumer products. Of these, the pharmaceuticals industry is the most promising segment and is projected to expand at the leading CAGR of 5% during this 10-year period. Meanwhile, the food and beverages segment is anticipated to account for the leading share in the overall market throughout the period.

The rising demand for automated machinery is attributed to the pressing need for boosting operational output. Additionally, the intensifying need for modernising manufacturing facilities is also increasing the demand for semi-automated and automated technologies.

Another notable factor is the growing need for improving workplace conditions by adopting automation for end-of-line packaging solutions. Human error is the cause of most damage to reputation and product quality. They also cost money in terms of packaging or Premium Label Solutions waste, reworking time and may even result in regulation fines. Correct coding, for example, is important for ensuring the supply chain operates efficiently and providing retailers and customers with important product information.

Because of this, manufacturers need solutions for removing operator errors from creeping into production lines, reducing wastage, and minimising brands’ reputational damage because of recalled products, among other things.

A good example of how Pyrotec boosts its end-of-line production for customers is through its CoLOS® software applications from Markem-Image, locally represented by Pyrotec PackMark. CoLOS® software allows manfufacturers to integrate equipment networks throughout the production line into one central system. By standardising data input, human error is reduced. This saves time, improves production flow, and drastically reduces long-term costs.

CoLOS® consists of numerous software options to meet every end-of-line production requirement. These include options for packaging coding, message design, the management of complex labels and codes, and the ability to operate multiple printers from one platform.

The software can be customised to integrate with equipment such as barcode readers, checkweighers, HMIs and PLCs on the production floor. This allows better visibility and positively contributes to OEE efficiency.

What’s more, CoLOS® provides real-time data about production processes by linking production plans to individual printers on the line. It also monitors the productivity and efficiency of each machine, and automates the selection of data for printing, reducing the need for human intervention. In turn, this reduces the risk of operator errors and provides accurate performance reports.
